Measured at the front edge, all Mullens are 1?" thick.

Mullen shower bases have a finished top surface and are not meant for any decorative floor covering. Mullens are fast to install and easily integrate with different floor covering materials on the surrounding subfloor.

The only color available is white, and all models have the same safety texture pattern.

Yes, all Mullen models are structural and can be installed directly on joists spaced no more than 14½" apart (16? on-center).

Mullens are designed to integrate with different types of decorative flooring. Since different types of flooring have different thicknesses, you will install a Mullen base so that it fits the needs of the surrounding floor. For a vinyl floor, you will install a Mullen directly on the joists. For a tile floor, you will need to shim the Mullen base off the joists. To elevate the shower base it is easy to fasten a panel of plywood of the appropriate thickness above the joists, or add "sister" joists set to the height that's needed. To gauge the proper installation height to work with tile, you do want to have a tile adaptor on hand.

A shower drain connector fits all Mullen models. ARC can supply a 2" PVC Sioux Chief 825 shower drain connector.

Remove the clamping bar(s) and you will see pre-bored pilot holes for fastening a Mullen to the material below. Also, every Mullen model has a nailing flange along the upstands (the sides of a Mullen that meets the walls). At every stud location, drill a pilot hole through the nailing flanges. When it comes time to install a Mullen, after you have it level and thoroughly supported, you can apply adhesive to wood supports or thinset mortar to concrete underneath. Position the Mullen and screw the base to the substrate and to the walls.

All Mullen models are shown in ARC's catalog and website. While many models can be cut to fit site requirements, there isn't an option to have one made to order. Sorry.

You can use any type of wall material you choose. Some choose tile, while others want solid surface, acrylic, or fiberglass panels.

The manufacturer offers a limited lifetime warranty to the original "end-user" purchaser of the product. The warranty covers manufacturing defects in the product. Please read the AKW warranty for details.

Setting a Mullen on joists requires care and is a critical part of the installation. The entire perimeter of a Mullen must be supported. Additionally, the drain area requires support. We recommend 2x stock for all support blocking, and make sure the Mullen is supported by the entire thickness of the material (1½"). Be sure that all edges of the subfloor are also supported with blocking.

Waterproofing is not necessary.
